Where to plant Roses and care for!
Roses do best with Am sun of at least 6 hrs.
Blackspot and Powdery Mildew is the biggest Fungi care concerns for Roses.
Wet leaves and warm temperatures promote Blackspot therefore watering is done in the am and don’t get the leaves wet. Pick off any dead leaves and discard away from your Roses. Mulching around Roses also helpes prevent blackspot plus keeps the moisture needed, as Roses do not like to dry out. Powdery Mildew is a grayish coating that appears on the younger leaves. The best protection is airflow around your Roses. At first sign of Mildew mix a tablespoon of baking soda per gallon of water spraying it on in the Am.
Deadheading of old blooms is important. Don’t let them form seed pods called [Hips] as they take the energy from the Rose bush producing fewer flowers. Stop deadheading September first. When pruning do it in late fall and early spring this stimulates new growth. The crown of the Rose needs to be protected. Cover the bed with Mulch at least a foot deep. The canes should be wrapped with burlap and in high windy areas filled with Mulch.
Now select your Roses and enjoy their beauty! Hybrid Teas and Grandiforas, Floribundas, Climbers, Groundcover, Shrub Roses, Miniature, or 24" Patio Tree Roses.
